Abstract

The project focuses on the synthesis and characterization of tellurite glasses containing quantum dots (QDs) of PbS in compositions with high potential for photonic and optoelectronic applications. Tellurite glasses will be explored as host matrices for controlled growth of PbS nanocrystals. This project aims to the systematic study on QDs nanocrystallization process into glass matrices through controlled heat treatment - nucleation and growth - above glass transition temperatures. Since the QDs size and distribution in the matrix influences the optical and luminescent properties, this project emphasizes on studies of the structural, optical and thermal properties for the synthesis of optically active glasses applied in photonics. The glass samples will be characterized by XRD, DSC, FT-IR, UV-Visible, Raman, solid state NMR and visible and infrared photoluminescence. In this context, the project is inserted in the new researches tendency for production of optically active glass materials, through the synthesis and investigation of tellurite glass containing QDs with great properties suitable for practical applications in optics, such as luminescent materials, light emitters, optical amplifiers, optically active planar waveguides, etc. (AU)
