Abstract

The Brazilian Electrical System will enlarge significantly in the near future and it is important to qualify new researches with state-of-art technologies in order to allow them to coordinate and participate in the fore-coming system expansion projects. The Electromagnetic Transient Study Group, coordinated by Professor Maria Cristina Tavares, is formed by post-doctor fellow, graduated and under-graduated students who use in their researches the worldwide used transient simulation tools, such as ATP and PSCAD/EMTDC. In the present project the group research activities in several areas are described, such as: transmission in very long transmission systems, innovative methods to enhance single and three-phase auto reclosing procedure for alternated current (AC) transmission lines, development of secondary arc mathematical model and field measurement of very long transmission line energization. Regarding very long transmission system, the group is involved in Half-Wave Length transmission for the fore coming very large AC transmission trunks connecting large hydro power plants located in Amazon region to load centers at South-East and North-East Brazilian regions.
