Acquisition of real time digital simulator (RTDS) and contributions to transmission lines reclosure maneuver

Abstract

The Brazilian Electrical System will enlarge significantly in the near future and it is important to qualify new researches with state-of-art technologies in order to allow them to coordinate and participate in the fore-coming system expansion projects. The Electromagnetic Transient Study Group, coordinated by Professor Maria Cristina Tavares, is formed by graduated and under-graduated students who use in their researches the worldwide used transient simulation tools, such as ATP and PSCAD/EMTDC. In the present project the group research activities in several areas are described, such as: innovative methods to enhance single and three-phase auto reclosing procedure for alternated current (AC) transmission lines and the use of Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) in the group researches activities with transients studies and relays. This simulator is an important tool to improve students' qualification and to test new proposals of our group in protection field. (AU)
