Abstract

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in people over 65 years of age. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) is a brief test of tracking the cognitive deterioration, used internationally and translated into over 50 languages. Studies of laboratory tests of platelet ADAM10 have shown changes in expression in patients with AD. Studies that relate the cognitive symptoms of disease development revealed by neuropsychological tests such as MMSE with molecular biomarkers such as levels of platelet protein ADAM10 may be important for the planning care to the elderly with AD. The aim of this project is to investigate the relationship between the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the expression of ADAM10 in two groups of elderly people registered (no cognitive change and patients with AD). The subjects will be enrolled in elderly services, reference and counter reference to dementia in the studied city: Units of the Family Health Unit and School Health. This is a descriptive study, based on the assumptions of quantitative research and all care ethics will be observed. Will be apply the individual and household MMSE. The collection of biological material will be made after clinical assessment and diagnosis of the elderly by health professionals of the health unit school. The analysis of biological material will be held at the Laboratory of Biochemistry and molecular biology from the university. After collecting the data, the data will be analyzed using methods of statistical co-relation. The results may contribute to the planning of interventions and implementation of public policies that act in prevention and in care with these populations, especially within the Units of the Family Health Program.
