Abstract

The aims of this study are: 1) to correlate gene expression profiles with clinical staging at diagnosis, cytogenetic abnormalities, cell surface antigens and histology of bone marrow in MM patients; 2) to identify changes in gene expression profiles in MM patients induced by treatment with thalidomide; 3) to correlate eventual heterogeneity of gene expression at diagnosis with therapeutic response, either to standard chemotherapy or to thalidomide; 4) to evaluate the role of SNPs of the coding or promoter regions of selected genes in relation to the susceptibility or the evolution of MM.
