Abstract
Several studies showed masticatory improvement of denture patients after association of osseointegrated implant. However, few are those that evaluated mastication among the partial dentures, fixed or removable, on teeth or implants. The aim of this study is to compare mastication of patients with mandibular partial denture, with or without posterior implant retainer, in a first moment, and fixed partial denture in a second stage. The follow variables will be analyzed: masticatory performance, maximum bite force, swallowing threshold, masticatory cycle pattern, masticatory ability, nutritional state, quality of life and patient satisfaction. For that, 12 volunteers, between 40 and 70 years, presenting total maxillary edentulism and partial mandibular edentulism (Kennedy Class I) will be selected. First, maxillary conventional denture and mandibular removable partial denture will be made. After 2 months of prosthesis use, the variables will be measured. In a second moment, the same patient will receive two Titamax Ti® Implants (NeoDent®, Curitiba, Brazil), bilateral in pre-molar and molar area. After the implant healing, oring abutments NeoDent® (NeoDent®, Curitiba, Brazil) will be added to connect the posterior implants. After 2 months, the variables will be measured again. In the last stage, a fixed partial denture will be performed on all implants and after 2 months the variables will be analyzed once more. The collected results will be submitted to an exploratory data analysis and appropriate statistical tests will be applied. (AU)
