Abstract

Surface properties such as wettability plays a role in improving osteoblastic biological response, which may result in optimized bone-implant contact and time required for osseointegration specially concerned to immediate implant procedures in fresh extraction socket and loading. Implant stability are depended of two factors: primary stability delivered by engagement of the implant into surrounding bone and, secondary stability promoted by biological response that ends up with new-bone deposition around the implant surface. Although the hydrophilic property of implant surface has been approached over the last few years, there is no study comparing highly and moderately surfaces using histological, histometric, ressonance frequency analysis (RFA)and fluorescent microscopy tools. Thus, six Labrador dogs will be submitted to premolars and first molar extractions. Three months later 4 implants Neoss (Neoss Ltd, Harrogate, UK)will be installed in one side of the mandible: 2 Bimodal" (moderately hydrophilic) and 2 ProActive" (highly hydrophilic). After 3 weeks other 4 implants in the contra-lateral side using the same protocol as describe above. The animals will be sacrificed 1 week later, so that the process of implants osseointegration will assessed at 1 and 4 weeks time after installation, using RFA, histology, histometry and fluorescence bone labeling.
