Abstract

The peculiarities of the workplace and the situations of great tension endured by prison employees increase the risks of these professionals presenting high and prolonged levels of stress which may culminate in the Burnout Syndrome and/or in the exacerbated consumption of alcoholic drinks as a coping mechanism. Thus, it is proposed to carry out this study in order to identify the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome and Alcoholism and its association with the variables of interest among Prison Employees in Itirapina-SP. Taking part in the study will be all those employees from the two municipal prisons who agreed with the terms of Free and Informed Consent. The following will be used as measurement instruments: a socio-demographic questionnaire, the alcohol use disorders identification test, the Burnout Maslach Inventory, the Brief-COPE inventory and the Scale of Satisfaction with Social Support. The psychometric properties of the instruments will be evaluated estimating the psychometric sensitivity of the items, the reliability and the confirmatory, convergent and discriminating factorial validities. We will undertake descriptive statistics and modeling by means of structural equations where alcoholism will be the central construct. (AU)
