Abstract
The sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in children were described at the beginning of last century, but were rediscovered by Guilleminault in 1976. Since then, numerous studies have been done to better understand and treat these disorders. This project is aimed at determining the impact of individual and combined variables dental malocclusion, cognitive impairment, overweight, gender and school performance for the diagnosis of SDB in children 7 to 9 years.It will be implemented at the Department of Emergency Medicine and Evidence-Based Medicine, Escola Paulista de Medicina - Federal University of Sao Paulo and the Department of Education in Osasco - Network of public education. The study was divided into 2 phases, the first phase composed of the Evaluation of sleep disturbances made by SCDC range of sleep disorders in children, evaluation of the occlusion, cognitive analysis, analysis of school performance, Analysis of Body Mass IndexThe sample was calculated according to the proposed Demidenko for phase 1 and the sample size obtained was 1045 participants. For phase 2 of the sample will be 60 participants included students from public schools in Osasco, aged between 7 and 9 years old, willing to participate in the study by signing the consent form. Children will be excluded: who are receiving or have previously received orthodontic or orthopedic functional jaws and / or have already undergone surgery of adenoids and / or tonsils, with cleft lips and / or palate, syndromes, who refuse to sign the consent form and clarified.
