Comparison of kynesiotherapy and manual lymphatic drainage in the lymphatic compensations after breast cancer surgery

Abstract

The incidence of ipsilateral limb lymphedema post breast cancer surgery, range between 24 to 49%, and can be notice immediately after or years after the surgery, damaging the physical and psychological quality of life. Many factors are related to the development of limphoedema: axilary empting and its level, radiotherapy, extension of the surgery technique among others. Objective: evaluated the effects of kynesiotherapy and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) in the lymphatic compensations of the shoulder after breast cancer surgery. Subjects and Methods: it will be a case-control study, in which 118 women from the Center of Assistance Health from the University of Campinas, submitted to breast cancer surgery will be invited to participate. If included, they will be located to two different groups: Group 1, submitted to kynesiotherapy (n=59), and Group 2, submitted to MLD (n=59). The socio-demographics and clinical datas will be collected before surgery, at the Physiotherapy Ambulatory. The lymphatic compensations will be evaluated through lymphoscintigraphy exam before and 60 days after surgery. The statistical analysis will be performed using the absolute (n) and relative (%) frequencies for categorical variables and mean, median and standard padron for continuous variable. The homogeneity between groups will be analyzed through q-square test or fisher test for ordinals and nominees variables and t student or Mann Whitney for discrete variable. For the analyses of continuous variables it will be calculate the odds ratio. The significance level assumed will be 5%. (AU)
