Abstract

This project involves the application of knowledge from the field of information science to medicine and aims the construction and practical application of domain ontology for the medical specialty of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging. Based on the intensive usage of information from several different types of examinations, and comprehensive coverage of terminology in the area, with the combined use of medical images as a source of diagnostic information, the use of an ontology is suitable for arrange information found there for the intelligent use focused on the diagnosis, as well as a way to facilitate the deployment of electronic health record (S-RES). The research will be carried out based on the clinical information extracted from the Radiology Information System at the Hospital of the Medical School of Ribeirão Preto (RIS-HCFMRP), allowing a focused approach to clinical practice care and teaching. Text mining techniques will be applied for the extraction and processing of information. The ontology will be build using the open source software Protegè, considering the rules for biomedical ontology. Results will be disseminated to clinical practice and teaching environment of the Image Science and Medical Physics Center at HCFMRP. The research development and results evaluation will be supported by methods of action research with questionnaires for qualitative and quantitative measurements. Evaluation will also include the ad hoc support of medical specialists at the research hosting institution. (AU)
