Evaluation of factors related to the push-out test between fiber post and root dentin

Abstract

The use of fiber posts is a restorative approach that preserve dental structure and reduce the risk of root fractures, due his good mechanical properties. Some studies had shown that operators, with different levels of ability, could generate different bond strength results between coronal dentin and resin composite. It occurs due differences in the adhesive system application or due differences in handling machines used for the bond strength tests measurements. This study will be divided in two parts: the first will evaluate the operator's and equipment's influence on the adhesive area of the specimens and on the push-out bond strength of each specimen. The second part will evaluate the experience of the operator and the cementation strategy on the push-out bond strength between fiber post and root dentin . In the part I the fiber posts will be cemented in human teeth (N=15) using a self-adhesive cement. Three disks slices (h=2 mm) will be obtained per specimen and the push-out test will be executed at 1 mm/min speed. The dimensions of each specimen (height and diameters) will be evaluate for three different operators, using a stereomicroscope and a digital caliper. In the part II, fiber posts will be cemented (N=120) in bovine teeth using two different cementation strategies. Three different operators, with different levels of knowledge, will execute the procedures. The push-out test will be used for evaluate the bond strength. In both parts the data will be initially submitted to the normality and homocedasticity test, and after to ANOVA-2 way and Tukey's test (p=0.05). (AU)
