Abstract

The manufacture of oxide nanotube arrays on Ti and Ti alloys by electrochemical methods has attracted much attention for applications in environmental photocatalysis due to its photoinduced reactivity. This proposal involves the synthesis, characterization and test of self-organized oxide semiconductor nanotubes on a titanium/tungsten alloy, used in an electrochemical reactor for the heterogeneous degradation of organic compounds found in waste water. The formation of the self-organized oxide semiconductor nanotubes, Ti-x%W, will be investigated as a function of the applied potential, fluoride ion concentration used during the anodisation and flow rate of solution. Performance parameters during the degradation of organic compounds such as the current efficiency, the electrochemical stability of electrode material, the percentage of degradation, the energy consumed per volume of effluent treated and the space time yield will be investigated during electrolysis in electrochemical and photoelectrochemical reactors.
