"Application of green technology for remediation of environmental pollution using heterogeneous catalysts prepared with alternative supports"

Abstract

This project aims to develop processes based on clean and efficient technologies for remediation of environmental pollution, focusing on the treatment of wastewaters with high lipid contents and on the degradation of emerging pollutants. This objective will be achieved bydesigning alternative materials that can be used as enzyme immobilization matrices and photocatalyst impregnation supports. First, different supports will be synthesized usinga 3D-printed polymer gel, poly(styrene-co-triethylene glycol dimethacrylate) magnetized with ferric ions, and cellulosebeads.The resulting supports will be used for the preparation of biocatalyst derivatives by immobilization of Eversalipasesand pancreatic lipases via physical adsorption and/or covalent binding and photocatalyst derivatives by impregnation with aZnO/carbon xerogelhybrid material.Finally, the heterogeneous catalysts prepared here will be applied in the treatment of dairy wastewater and the bioaccumulative pollutant salicylic acid in continuoustubular reactors.Thisproject aims to strengthen a line of research (catalytic and biocatalytic processes) of the Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering of the Department of Chemical Engineering,Engineering School of Lorena(EEL), University of São Paulo (USP), comprising the areas of biocatalysis and photocatalysis. The study will have the collaboration ofresearchers from the aforementioned department and from other national and international institutions. Thus, the contribution of this project lies in obtaining active, stable catalysts that can be applied in different areas, aiming at the advancement of cleaner and economically viable technologies to be used in environmentally friendly processes for the treatment of environmentally harmful materials.
