Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare, in obese women, the effect of different food restriction diets on anthropometric, biochemical and hormonal parameters, and also the perception of the experience of food restriction and dietary intake after food restriction. Thirty women with BMI higher than 30 kg/m2, maximum weight of 130 kg and aged 20 to 50 years will be selected for this research, and they will be divided into an Experimental group (n=15) and a Control group (n=15). The study protocol will be conducted in three phases, within 10 days, with four samples in time (T). On Phase I, on first day (T1), all participants will receive training for a home ad libitum diet and will be collected anthropometric and body composition measurements. On days 2 and 3, the patients will do the home ad libitum diet with a food record documented with photographic image. On Phase II the participants will be hospitalized to be submitted to food restriction of 1000 kcal/d for three days (days 4, 5 and 6), separated at this stage in Experimental group, which will receive a high-fiber diet, and Control group, which will receive a conventional diet. On the 4th day (T2), in the beginning of Phase II, and on the 7th day (T3), after food restriction period, patients will be re-examined for collection of anthropometric data and body composition, determination of resting energy expenditure and blood collection for biochemical analysis and postprandial ghrelin. On Phase III, the participants will have another two days of home ad libitum diet (days 8 and 9) with food records documented with photographic image to assess food intake during the food restriction subsequent period. On the 10th day (T4), the patients will be evaluated on anthropometric and body composition measurements in addition to the assessment of resting energy expenditure and blood collection for biochemical analysis. During the food restriction period (Phase II), the hunger and satiety scale will be applied and perception of experience of food restriction will be evaluated by content analysis of the descriptions made in a register book, during the period of hospitalization.
