Abstract

It is indisputable the agribusiness importance to built Brazil's GDP. The sheep production is one of several agrarian activity segments that has a high socio-economic potential in many regions of the world. However, the scientific information about characteristics that could demonstrate the degree of sheep production effectiveness, especially the ones considered as commercials, are scarce, regardless the fact that Sao Paulo state has favorable conditions for ovine production. It is supposed that this referred potential would not be redundant with the significant generation of resources that could lead to a sheep production magnitude within the Brazilian agribusiness context. If this hypothesis is confirmed, which guidelines would be liable to instruct managers of this agroindustrial system to pursue improvements in productivity? This project will be divided in three primary stages. In the first one, the socio-economic profile of Brazil's sheep production will be determined through a questionnaire that comprises variables considered fundamental to meet the proposed aims. With this data, it will be possible to start the second stage, when all the collected information will be exhaustively discussed to specify the constraining factors of growth. Some proposals to revert the situations, which could be halting the development of this agribusiness, will be made on the third stage. (AU)
