Abstract

The study aims to evaluate the influence of glutamine, glutamate and nucleotide in the cell renewal process and adaptability of piglets at weaning, by studying the turnover of carbon-13 of intestinal mucosa, liver, pancreas and spleen, and morphological changes in the duodenum and jejunum. The piglets will be submitted to the feeding program in phases: pre-starter feed from 21 to 35 days, starter feed I from 36 to 49 days and starter feed II from 50 to 63 days old. Following diets will be assessed: control diet without glutamine (Gln), glutamate (Glu) and nucleotide (Nu) supplementation, diet containing 1% of Gln, diet containing 1% of Glu and diet containing 0.02% of Nu. In the first experiment will be used 123 weaned piglets distributed in a randomized blocks design with four treatments. On days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 14, 28 and 49 after weaning, will be slaughtered three pigs per treatment. On the day of weaning (day zero) will also be slaughtered three pigs. Samples of the intestinal mucosa, liver, pancreas and spleen will be analyzed in a mass spectrometer coupled to a Delta-S elemental analyzer for determining carbon isotope ratios. In the second experiment will be used 65 weaned piglets distributed in a randomized blocks design in a factorial arrangement with 4 x 3 +1, four diets, three slaughter: 7, 14 and 21 days post weaning and slaughter in a day of weaning. In the first experiment, the data of isotopic analysis will be analyzed by the exponential equations method of first order, for comparison between treatments. The morphological data will be submitted to variance analysis using the SAS statistical package. (AU)
