Abstract

Currently it is estimated that psychiatric emergencies constitute about 10% of all care provided in general and psychiatric emergency rooms, these paintings require immediate action in handling to avoid catastrophic outcomes. The term psychiatric emergency applies to any disturbance of feelings, behavior and actions that are not likely to be handled quickly and appropriately by the health service, social justice or in the community and is generally manifested by agitation and aggressive behavior or violent, these are situations arising from psychiatric clinics and require immediate psychiatric intervention. Given the scarcity of studies related to the management skills and aggressive behavior by nursing professionals, considering the scarcity of Brazilian studies on the subject and considering that there are commercially available instruments in Portuguese can measure the attitudes of nurses aggressive behavior and its management to carry out this study aims to construct validation of the scale Management of Aggression and Violence Attitude Scale (MAVAS) for use in Brazil. The MAVAS is a Likert type scale, with alternatives of one (strongly disagree) to five (strongly agree), has four structural factors for the instrument distributed in total 27 items, represented by situational or interactional perspective (sentence number 2, 3, 6, 20, 23), external view of violence and aggression of the patient (number 1 sentences, 16 and 27), biological perspective of patient aggression and violence (number of sentences 4, 5, 7, 9, 14) and views on management of patient aggression and violence (sentence number 8, 10-13, 15, 17-19, 21, 22, 24-26). It is therefore a quantitative study, where the experimental scale MAVAS BR-140 will be applied to the services of hospital nurses and public psychiatric emergency service in São Paulo in order to verify the attitudes of nurses to aggressive behavior and its management, which ultimately will support future research in this area as lacking research in Brazil.
