Comparasion of the analgesic effect of sistemic tramadol, phenylbutazone, or both combination in horses undergoing artroscopy surgery

Abstract

The use of tramadol systemically is a great option for treating post-operative pain in other species, providing satisfactory analgesia with moderate duration and minimal side effects. However, the effects of this drug in horses are still poorly understood, also its application, because clinical trials are lacking in this species. Therefore, this study aims to compare the analgesic effects of administration of tramadol, phenylbutazone, or both combinations in horses undergoing arthroscopic surgery using pain scales. Changes in cardiovascular and respiratory systems, changes in gastrointestinal motility, recovery from anesthesia, lameness, and the levels of serum cortisol, TNF-±, interleukin 1-AR, and interleukin 10 will be assessed. Will be used 18 animals from the Surgery Department of the Veterinary Hospital of University of São Paulo. These animals will be divided into three groups randomly, and is considered a minimum of 6 animals in each group. The animals will receive painkillers before the surgical stimulus, the group T will receive tramadol at a dose of 2 mg / kg intravenously, the group F will receive phenylbutazone at a dose of 4.4 mg / kg intravenously and the group TF will receive the association of both drugs. The parameters HR, RR, claudication, bowel motility and analgesia will be evaluated for 6 hours. (AU)
