Abstract

This study aims at assessing the impact of regular physical activity with pedometer use on blood pressure in two groups of hypertensive sedentary control group and intervention group. undergoing an intervention with nursing instructions and the use of telephone contacts The study will be monitored in people with hypertension Family Health Strategy a basic health unit in the western city of São Paulo. The calculation of the sample resulted in 202 participants in each group: control and intervention, considering following a loss of 40% per group. For data collection instruments will be used: a) IPAQ (International Physical Activity Questionnaire) that characterizes the level of physical activity, b) Prochaska Questionnaire to assess the stage of behavior in physical activity, c) SRQ 20 ( Self Reporting Questionnaire), which allows for possible minor mental health patients, and d) the Charlson Scale, to identify comorbidities. Pedometer will be used to quantify the number of steps taken by participants during the study. The blood pressure measurement will be performed with validated automatic device in two situations: the basic health unit and at home (home blood pressure measure-HBPM) at weeks 0 and 10. All participants will conduct tests: fasting glucose, total cholesterol and fractions, and triglycerides, using a portable device in the unit, at weeks 0 and 10. There will also be anthropometric measurements: weight, height, to determine the body mass index and waist circumference measured. The intervention will last for 10 weeks. The intervention group will receive guidelines on physical activity, according to the goal of steps to be reached through telephone contact by nurses held weekly. At weeks 0 and 10 participants from all control and intervention groups will receive a pedometer to use it for 3 days, in order to calculate the average steps, beginning and end, respectively. Only the intervention group will get the pedometer during the 10 weeks of study. For data analysis, categorical variables will be evaluated with parametric tests (Student t test or analysis of variance) or nonparametric test (the sum of post Wilcoson or Kruskal-Wallis). The level of significance to be adopted will be p <0.05 (AU)
