Abstract

Exploratory, descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, which aims to analyze the presence of sense of coherence in the elderly and its influence on their perception of quality of life and adherence to medical treatment high blood pressure (hypertension) and diabetes mellitus (DM) . The sample will be consist of 120 elderly men and women with hypertension and DM assisted in a Basic Health Unit (BHU), by a team of the Family Health Strategy (ESF) and enrolled in a unit of the Open University of the Third Age (UATI) of a country town in São Paulo state. Data collection will take place in meetings with researchers to fill validated instruments, namely "Antonovsky Sense of Coherence Questionnaire", "Quality of Life Inventory" by Ferrans and Powers (IQVP) and Assessment Instrument Physical Activity developed by Aadahl and Jorgensen. Data will be analyzed by statistical work and the results are considered statistically significant if p <0.05, 95% confidence interval. It is hoped that this study will contribute to characterize the association between quality of life and sense of coherence among elderly patients with hypertension and diabetes mellitus and thus support proposals that help the understanding of factors related to adherence to Hypertension and DM pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment.
