Abstract

Due to the expansion of intensive aquaculture the use of drugs is growing in aquacultures activities. The use of anti-infective (antibiotic and antimicrobial) in Brazilian aquaculture is relatively recent. On the other hand, the excessive use of these compounds as chimiotherapeutic prophylaxis and growth promoters in aquaculture builds a framework of uncertainties and risks to public health (microbial resistance), to product and to environment. The first objective of this study is to characterize the spatial and seasonal occurrence of antibiotic residues in aquaculture environmental compartments and his products (fish) correlating them to the parameters of production and health management adopted by fish farmers. The next goal is to evaluate the occurrence of microbial resistance caused by the use of antibiotics in fish production. It is believed that these studies will contribute to increase the academic base of knowledge about environmental health management and risk analysis of the ecological national aqua business also will awareness help fish farmers in the use of these drugs, resulting in savings for the aqua business, offering better products and minimization of contamination environment.
