Luminous efficacy of solar radiation, sky vault luminance distribution and identification of prevailing skies in Campinas, SP


Daylight availability data for any location are essential to help, from a quantitative standpoint, architecture projects that seek to address the daylight as the primary light source in buildings, having in view energy, sustainability and health concerns. As such data are rare in Brazil, this research aims to take measurements to identify possible correlations between global solar radiation and horizontal, vertical and global illuminances, and map sky luminance distributions, to identify the prevailing sky types in accordance with the standard ISO 15469:2004 (CIE S 011/E:2003). The global solar radiation and illuminances will be measured, respectively, with commercial sensors made specifically for such purposes, while the sky vault luminances will be taken by HDR (High Dynamic Range) images, technique that has been previously used in another research supported by FAPESP. The research is intended to indicate a less expensive alternative, but no less reliable of that offered by a daylighting measurement station mounted according the standard recommended by the CIE - Commission Internationale de L'Éclairage. All procedures used in the measurements will be tightly drawn to that eventually could be replicated in other places than the city of Campinas, SP, site of the measurements for this study. (AU)
