Abstract
This project has the objective of analyzing the behavior of piled rafts executed from a group of bored piles excavated with a 5 m length auger and 0.25 m diameter. These piles will be founded in a diabase deposit of the Campinas region, where the subsoil is normally comprised of sandy silt followed by silty sand. In this area it is proposed the construction of foundation top caps with one, two, three and four piles, where four of the blocks will be in contact with the superficial soil and the remaining four will not have any contact with the ground's surface. More three blocks (one, three and four piles) will be constructed with aim to study the influence of the behavior of the foundation in case of the insertion of a defective pile. In total, twenty eight (28) piles will be executed, all of them instrumented with strain-gages strategically located at top and tip sections. This instrumentation will serve to assess the load transference along the piles as well as load distribution along the block/piles. Slow maintained pile load tests will be carried out, in accordance to the prescriptions of the NBR 12131/2006. The testing site will be the Research Site of Soil Mechanics and Foundations from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism of the Unicamp, within an area of approximately 600 m2. In this site several laboratory tests have already been carried out with undisturbed soil samples retrieved from inspection wells, and in situ tests were thoroughly performed (SPT-T, DMT, CPT, DPL) with grant from a former CNPq research project. Numerical analyses of the results will also be done by using well recognized soil models and computational tools, aiming the simulation and evaluation of the 2D and 3D behavior of the foundations - besides of the simulation of the defective piles. With this project three Doctorate Thesis, Two Master Dissertations and Two Scientific Initiation Projects will be supported. It is hoped herein the advance in the knowledge of the behavior of piled rafts, with the aim to foster the technical area with guidelines to a better elaboration of the technical designs and the execution processes of this type of foundation. It is worthy to emphasize that the working group will count with researchers from the University of Brasília (UnB) and Federal University of Goiás (UFG), whose members have vast experience in investigations of this type of foundation.
