Abstract

The electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation for the heart evaluation is a procedure that demands long time training and good experience of the medical professional. Nevertheless, as for the clinical practice, it is not frequently easy to obtain cardiopathic patients enough for an adequate training/learning of the medical staff. Thus, complex computational models have been developed to help the elucidation of the ECG origin from theoretical heart models. However, we did not find scientific articles showing the inverse approach of providing, based in the ECG interpretation, a heart model notably during its beating. This approach would allow a more anatomical, functional and, most importantly, didactic visualization of the heart. Therefore, the goal of the present project is to develop a didactic software for a tri-dimensional (3D) heart animation specifically based upon ECG interpretation. The software will be developed in three main parts simultaneously: 1- ECG classification for the situations to be animated: Normal; Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia and Inferior Myocardial Infarction; 2- Modelling and 3D Heart Animation; and 3- Graphic Interface Construction for the integration of heart animation friendly interaction of the user. The proposed software is a new didactic tool that will allow to the medical professional simultaneous ECG interpretation and heart beating visualization. In the future, as a natural evolution of this project, it is possible to conceive heart animations including its internal structures that would turn the software into an even more didactic tool.
