Evaluation of erythropoiesis in a canine chronic kidney disease

Abstract

It was recently verified in a study from the group in veterinary hematology, FCAV / Unesp, after careful correlation of the bone marrow and blood count. The central and peripheral hematological behaved in different ways at different stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) dogs. Upright and seeking to understand the mechanisms that run the normocytic normochromic anemia in dogs with CKD, afterward the aim of this study is to assess the blood serum, and some important factors that induce suppression of erythropoiesis. Forty dogs will be divided in four experimental groups, a control group (CG) consisting of healthy dogs (n = 10) and three others with CKD stages 2, 3 and 4 of IRIS classification (2009). Samples will taken from peripheral and central blood (bone marrow) to the complete blood count, reticulocitometria, myelogram, urinalysis, biochemical analysis, urine, and serum parathyroid hormone, erythropoietin, interleukin 1 beta (IL-1²), interleukin 3 (IL-3), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-±) and interferon gamma (IFN-³). It is considered that serum suppressor and inducer factors will be enable to understanding the genesis of anemia commonly found in dogs with CKD, and contribute greatly to the establishment more effectively therapeutic protocols to restoration of marrow cellularity in canine patients with CKD.
