Precipitation of alfa and omega phases and recrystallization phenomena in plastically cold deformed Ti-Nb-Sn alloys


This research proposal deals with the development of new type beta titanium alloys with niobium and tin to be used as structural biomaterials in orthopedic implants. The intention is to evaluate the effects of Sn addition and plastic deformation on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of Ti-Nb-Sn alloys after different heat treatments, analyzing phenomena such as phase precipitation and recrystallization of the microstructure. The development of this research proposal is expect to contribute to the establishment of human resources in the field of processing and characterization of titanium alloys, as well as to contribute to the development of technology that allows obtaining, processing and characterizing titanium alloys with application in the production of orthopedic devices for implants.
