Study of virulence factors in Ureaplasma isolated from cattle in Bahia semi-arid region

Abstract

The intensification of farming has created complex problems in the health of the animal production more challenging the activity of the veterinarian. Despite advances in chemotherapy and effective vaccines, the diseases caused by microorganisms remains the biggest obstacle in intensive animal production. Research related to the mycoplasma epidemiology and pathogenicity are important and should be performed to the disturbances caused by these organisms can be better understood. In the present study, samples were collected in several properties located in the semi-arid region of Bahia. Thirty seven ureaplasma isolation were obtained from vulvovaginal swab and two from nasal swabs, totaling 39 microorganisms that will be analyzed. The isolates will be evaluated for the presence of virulence factors. We will analyze the following factors: presence and determination of capsular material, phospholipase C, adhesion and invasion of cells with expression of cellular factors analysis, biofilm production and stimulation of macrophages. Information from this research may contribute to the deployment of specific technologies for the prevention and control of these microorganisms and consequently improvement of livestock. The implementation of microbiological laboratory practices associated with a return of this information, as well as guidelines relevant for farmers to contribute to improving the quality of dairy goats and cattle can increase the economic efficiency of these properties. This can lead to an improvement in quality of life and increase the income of small farmers and their families in the region of the semi-arid region of Bahia, setting the man on the field and making it economically viable activity.
