Abstract
Metal complexes have been used worldwide in medicine for diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. Inorganic compounds and their medical applications include, for example, treatment of cancer and arthritis, antimicrobial agents and enzyme inhibitors. The structural knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms of pharmacological action of these compounds are of fundamental importance in the development of safer and more efficient drugs.Currently, gold complexes are used in the treatment of arthritis, silver complexes in the treatment of bacterial infections and platinum complexes in cancer treatment. In addition, new metal complexes of palladium(II), ruthenium(II), ruthenium(III) and gold(I) have been synthesized and described as potential antimicrobial and antitumor agents. This project deals with the preparation, characterization and pharmacological application of new metal complexes of platinum(II), palladium(II), gold(I) and silver(I) with nimesulide, cycloserine, butionine sulfoximine and rimantadine in the treatment of diseases such as cancer and bacterial infections.
