Abstract

Considering the potentialities of the use of thermal and photometric methods in the characterization, evaluation of the thermal stability and degradation pathways of pharmaceutical substances, this research proposal aims to contribute with the development of such studies. Taking in account the social importance and the extension of the problem caused by hypertension (HT) in public health area, this project aims the development of thermal analytical strategies for studying the drugs used in the HT control as a contribution to the problem. The antibiotics by their turn are being extensively used in human and veterinary medicine as well as in animal growing.Thermal based methods can give important information about stability, durability and physical-chemical parameters involved in the storage of the pharmaceuticals and their commercial formulations. It is also very important to consider that these substances are becoming significant potential pollutants in domestic and industrial waste wasters which demands understanding of their decomposition mechanism, volatiles generating during decomposition and residues. Thermal studies can provide alternatives for remediation in case of environmental contamination by pharmaceuticals and their formulations. In this sense is possible to think that this project can represent spread results in different areas of research: thermal analysis, photochemistry, fotocalorimetry and solution analysis. The preliminary results already obtained and presented in scientific meetings point to a high possibility of success in the realization of the proposed activities as well as in reaching the proposed objectives.
