BTFI pos-comissioning activities and the construction of the cameras for the JPAS/Pau Brazil project

Abstract

The IAG/USP has the intention of building a Fabry-Perot and Tunable filter instrument (FP/TF) for the SOAR telescope fed both at its natural, uncorrected focus and also in conjunction with the ground layer adaptive optics (GLAO) module, SAM. The wavelength range of the instrument will span the full UV/optical domain (350-1000nm) limited by the sensitivity of its CCD detectors. The FP/TF project has the support of CTIO and the University of North Carolina (two of the three SOAR partners), and is being developed in collaboration with researchers at the Observatoire de Marseille, with whom the extragalactic group of the IAG/USP has a long-term collaboration. The visit of Dr. Taylor, who is a world renowed instrumentalist has the main goal of testing a new prototype instrument and defining the specifications of the instrument to be built. One publication about the iBTF instrument will be written. The visitor will also teach a short-duration course about Optical instrumentation for Astronomy. (AU)
