Abstract

This project will be developed in the ambit of the searches of the Network Researchers About Medium Cities (ReCiMe). It is a study in which one of the classification criteria of the medium cities will be investigated: the roles of intermediation exerted by the city. Through the possible results, it tries to contribute mainly in two aspects toward the urban studies: first, complementing the methodologies capable to demonstrate de capacity of the intermediation exerted by a city in an urban network, introducing techniques besides those that permit to observe the cities influence area, keeping the proportionality of the developed studies for the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in the case of the Influence Regions of the Cities (REGIC) ; second, building an informational figure about the intraurban reality of the city searched using methodological procedures of the researches about the medium cities of the ReCiMe, for possible comparative studies. The possibility to differentiate the cities from the roles they have in the urban network, besides the criteria of the physical size/ demographic, it seems to consolidate in the studies of the ReCiMe, The urban intermediation can be studied according to interurban location patterns, as in the case of the geographical situation of a medium city, and according to the dynamic and the intraurban content, as the cases of private and governmental activities in its respective geographical scales of abrangency.
