Abstract

The urbanization process constantly redefines spatial practices in cities and generates differentiations that increasingly shape exclusionary and unequal spaces. A true logic that contains forms of estrangement, ruptures and selectivity that go beyond the most studied socio-spatial dynamics. Different levels of socio-spatial fragmentation seem to be part of this new urban logic and this study seeks to understand the genesis and general characteristics of this process. The socio-spatial analysis of the city of Ribeirão Preto (SP) may allow to advance in the understanding of these redefinitions underway in the cities. Thus, the objective of this study is to identify the process of socio-spatial fragmentation and its consequences in the daily lives of city dwellers. The methodological procedures adopted seek to characterize the history of the city in its structuring and restructuring processes and to carry out a study of personal networks, using social network analysis techniques, researching city dwellers of different socio-spatial profiles, to understand the possible fragmentary dynamics that exist.
