Abstract

The socio-spatial differentiation in Brazilian cities has been deepening and points to the constitution of the process of socio-spatial fragmentation. His origin is linked to the predominance of neoliberal logics and subjectivities that precede the idea of the right to the city. This project aims to understand, at the city and urban level, how the fragmentary socio-spatial logic changes the content of differentiation and inequality, redefining the meanings of the right to the city. This central objective unfolds on four analytical levels: I) the transition from the central-peripheral socio-spatial logic to the fragmentary socio-spatial logic; II) interpretation of socio-spatial fragmentation through contemporary forms of differentiation and inequality, based on practices associated with urban daily life; III) unfolding of the fragmentary socio-spatial logic on the pair of public space / private space; IV) the role of policies, hegemonic economic agents and non-hegemonic social subjects. To conduct a research, five empirical dimensions were chosen from which the process of socio-spatial fragmentation will be analyzed: to live, work, consume, leisure and mobility. Cities of different socio-spatial backgrounds will be studied: Chapecó/SC, Dourados/MS, Ituiutaba/MG, Marabá/PA, Maringá/PR, Mossoró/RN, Presidente Prudente/SP, Ribeirão Preto/SP and São Paulo / SP, in addition to cities linked to these and which they identify during the research.
