Abstract

Achieving asthma control is the main goal of treatment by guidelines. The current control is to maintain patients without symptoms with normal lung function and low future risks of exacerbating, accelerate decline of lung function or side effects of maintenance medications. Method: Collection of clinical, inflammatory data and pulmonary function of asthmatics included in the 2006 protocol APITA. These patients are regularly seen at the outpatient clinic of the institution. They will be asked to fill the diary with asthma, and scheduling for collection of questionnaires (AQLQ, ACQ7), spirometry, induced sputum cytology and nasal lavage when asymptomatic. As outcome variables will be collected, the variation of the functional parameters over time (FEV1 mL / year), the frequency of moderate and severe exacerbations, inflammatory parameters, asthma control and quality of life questionnaires, and medication usage. Sample calculation: The cohort had 70 patients included, and it will be admitted a 20% lost follow up, therefore it will be necessary to evaluate 56 patients for analysis of results. (AU)
