Abstract

The project is based on the development and application of new technologies for the diagnosis of fungal infections in patients with AIDS and other immunosupressive conditions. The following methods are being studied and applied in three different projects that correspond to three thesis of post graduated students under my supervision: a) development of specific DNA chips for microarray in order to diagnosis fungal infections in patients living in Brazil, b) DNA sequencing will be the gold standard for fungal identification, c) detection of galactomanan and (1,3)beta-D-glucan in serum and BAL of patients with systemic fungal infection, d) application of the fast diagnosis system of real time PCR, e) antifungal susceptibility testing using microdilution and e-test.
