Biological pretreatment of Sugarcane bagasse (SB) is an ecofriendly and economic approach which can save the Processing cost and minimize the water usage. This proposal aims microbial delignification of SB by using selective delignifying microbial agents followed by enzymatic hydrolysis to convert into fermentable monomers and their separate and simultaneous conversion into ethanol (SHF and SSCF) by selected pentose and hexose sugars fermenting yeasts isolated from Brazilian Amazonic forests in one vessel. Furthermore, compositional change (lignin, hemicelluloses and cellulose amount determination) and structural mapping in native SB and delignified SB will be studied using structural methods such as Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In this study, the data analysis will be done by means of most advanced statistical methodologies. The outcome of the project will allow in establishing the advanced technologies and innovations in "biorefinery". It will serve the purpose for the sustainability and economic ethanol production encompassing non-chemical based pretreatment and process intensification. This project is an additional linkage with the on-going thematic project (2008/57926-4) and will provide new breakthrough for sustainable ethanol production. (AU)
