Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate cell therapy with magnetized human endothelial cells in experimental model of corneal endothelial failure. Methods: Twelve rabbits will undergo the procedure of acute corneal endothelium. Human corneal endothelial cells previously cultured in vitro will be exposed to the complex magnetic nanoparticles that will be incorporated into the cells by endocytosis. The rabbits will be divided into two groups according to the treatment used: Group 1) will be applied injections intra-camerular of human isolated and magnetized corneal endothelial cells; Group 2) will be applied injections intra-camerular of balanced saline solution (control group). After 30 days, the animals will be sacrificed and the corneas will be submitted to immunohistochemical analysis for ZO-1 and Na/K ATPase cell markers with specificity for human cells. It will be also evaluated histological analysis with HE, electron microscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance. (AU)
