Abstract

Over the past 20 years has grown the number of studies attempting to explain the relationship between the immune system and exercise. Today it is known that exercise may be an immunomodulator, stimulating or inhibiting the immune response. IN the other hand hypoxia has been described as a potent immunosuppressive agent primarily for its ability to increase the concentration of stress hormones such as catecholamines and cortisol, and also decrease the concentration of glutamine, increase oxidative stress and inflammation. Moreover, the effects of exercise on inflammatory and immunological parameters in hypoxic conditions are poorly understood. Studies suggest that hypoxia can whom the effects of exercise on the immune response is exacerbated in a manner dependent on the level and time of exposure, however, methodological limitations result in contradictory results and do not allow definitive conclusions. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effects of different intensities of exercise in hypoxia simulating an altitude of 4500m on immune function, oxidative stress and inflammatory parameters.
