Modeling and optimization of the dengue vector control

Abstract

Dengue is considered one of the most important viral diseases, transmitted by mosquitoes, which affects humans. The dengue is caused by virus, but their transmitters are mosquitoes of the Aedes genus, popularly known as dengue mosquito. In the last years, among the alternative forms of the vector control stand out the methods which use transgenic mosquitoes, sterile mosquitoes and a new dengue control strategy as the contamination of the population of insects by endo-bacterial symbiotic Wolbachia infections. This project is proposing to study the dynamics of interactions between populations of susceptible, infected mosquitoes and mosquitoes which limit the transmission of diseases (transgenic mosquitoes, sterile and infected by Wolbachia) and to determine the optimal strategies which can control diseases transmitted by vectors based on mathematical models and modern control methods.
