Study of canine visceral arteries endothelium dysfunctions after supraceliac ischemia-reperfusion

Abstract

The supraceliac aorta crossclamping is an exception procedure in the vascular surgery. However, it has been a very useful alternative in the abdominal surgical interventions secondary to abdominal trauma, independent if it was closed or penetrating. That crossclamping causes transitory partial ischemia in all abdominal organs and legs. This ischemia by itself, can induce cellular death and tecidual necrosis secondarily the lack of energy. However, many studies have showed that the tecidual lesion, in certain organs, happens not only in the ischemia period, but it is also exacerbated in the reperfusion period. Showed also that this lesion is more intense in the partial ischemia than in the total ischemia. A better understanding of the pathophysiology of those events, since it`s beginning, can result in opportunities of improvement of the therapeutic interventions. That was the larger motivation of the study proposed that intends to: 1) Study the alterations of the endotelial functions dependent of the nitric oxide in visceral arteries (renal, mesenteric and celiac trunk) of dogs, submitted to a transitory partial ischemia by supraceliac aortic crossclamping for 1 hour of duration, followed by reperfusion of ½ hour; and 2) Study the expression of free radicals through the measure of the lipidic peroxidation by dosage of the malondialdeído (MDA).
