Abstract

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the effect of the operative microscope in the treatment of gingival recessions using the subepithelial connective graft. Forty patients with Miller’s class I or II gingival recessions with a minimum of 3 mm depth will be selected. The subepithelial connective tissue graft will done with (test group) or without (control group) the operative microscope. Patients will be randomly assigned to one of the groups. The following clinical parameters will be evaluated: height and width of the gingival recession, height and thickness of keratinized tissue, probing depth, and clinical attachment level. The postoperative pain experienced by the patients will be measured with the visual analogue scale. Patient satisfaction with esthetics, root sensitivity, and postoperative pain will also be evaluated with questionnaires. A researcher, independent of clinical examiner and of operator, evaluated the healing and esthetics of the operated areas in photographs taken every week in the first month and every month until the sixth month. Clinical parameters will be recorded at baseline and 3 and 6 months postoperative. Descriptive statistics were expressed as mean ± standard deviation (SD). Repeated measures ANOVA will used for examination of differences within and between treatments. The non-parametric Wilcoxon test will be used to detect differences within and between groups regarding the visual analogue scale. The results from the questionnaires will be analyzed with the Chi-square test. (AU)
