Abstract

As an alternative to subepithelial connective tissue grafts (SCTG) donated from the palatal mucosa, the acellular dermal matrix graft (ADMG) has been widely used in periodontal plastic and mucogingival surgeries. Papers that compare those materials found out similar clinical results. In addition, ADMG can also avoid potential intercurrences and limitations presented by the autograft.Different surgical techniques used for root coverage look for predictability and success. For this reason, beyond the incision design, the placements of the flap and the graft are very important, because it benefits healing and final result. The aim of this study is to compare two surgical techniques for root coverage to evaluate which provide better root coverage.Fifteen adult patients nonsmokers, featuring bilateral multiple gingival recessions (e 3 mm), with at least two adjacent recessions, Miller's class I or II, located in different quadrants, will be selected. The both techniques will use the acellular dermal matrix (ADM) as grafting and partial-thickness flap, with sulcular and releasing incisions, coronally positioned (Barros et al. 2004). The difference between both techniques will be the stabilization level of the flap and the graft in order to reduce the possibility of exposure of ADM, which could compromise root coverage. The clinical parameters will be assessed 2 weeks after Basic Periodontal Therapy and 6 and 12 months after surgical procedures. Also, photographic measurements of gingival recessions will be done through software.
