Abstract

Gingival recession is characterized by an apical position of the gingival margin in relation to the cemento-enamel junction (American Academy of Periodontology - AAP, 2001). Among the techniques proposed for the treatment of this condition, there is the semilunar coronally positioned flap (SCPF) (Tarnow, 1986). Combination of techniques root coverage with the use of gel containing proteins derived from enamel matrix has recently been approached with the purpose of improving clinical outcomes. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate clinically the use of the SCPF for treatment of gingival recessions, with or without associated protein derived enamel matrix. Will be selected 30 patients with class I buccal gingival recession Miller with height greater than or equal to 2.0 mm and less than or equal to 4.0 mm in canines or premolars. Clinical parameters to be evaluated: height (GR) and width (WR) of the recession, clinical attachment level (CAL), probing depth (PD), height of keratinized tissue  (HKT), gingival thickness (GT) and width papillar (WP). To analyze the parameters PD, GR and CAL will be used analysis of variance, Friedman test for intragroup comparison and the Mann-Whitney test for intergroup comparison. Parameters GT and THA will be analyzed by the Wilcoxon test for intragroup comparison and Mann-Whitney test for intergroup comparison. The parameters LRG, LP will be analyzed using the unpaired t test for analysis of differences between groups. Dentin hypersensitivity to cold will be evaluated using a Schiff Scale and Visual Analogic Scale (VAS). The aesthetic evaluation will be performed by Root Coverage Esthetic Score (RES). Measurements will be taken before the surgical phase (baseline), 45 days, 60 days, 3 and 6 months after surgery. (AU)
