Abstract

Gingival recession is a very common problem in the dental clinic, which may affect up to 100% of the population and often associated with dentinal sensitivity and aesthetic problems. As a result, many surgical techniques were developed to deal with this problem. Even the best surgical techniques present a great variability in their results, and not all patients feel completely satisfied with the final esthetic outcome. One of the reasons that may explain this variation is the differences in the wound healing process of each patient. Many strategies have been used in an attempt to accelerate healing, one is the application of an exogenous electrical stimulation to activate tissue repair, whose understanding of the effects on clinical outcomes and on the molecular level of immunological biomarkers in gingival healing may represent a new treatment protocol in the periodontal plastic surgery arsenal. The objective of this study is to evaluate clinically, the results of 6 months of electrical stimulation associated with coronally advanced flap for treatment of gingival recession. For this, a double-blind randomized clinical trial will be carried out following the CONSORT STATEMENT 2010. Sixty patients presenting gingival recession will be divided in 2 groups: CAF+E: periodontal surgery for root coverage through trapezoidal flap plus electrical stimulation and CAF group: periodontal surgery for root coverage by trapezoidal flap and sham stimulation. Patient comfort will be evaluated at 7 days and aesthetic analyzes will be performed 6 months after the procedures (AU)
