Abstract

The rise of the environmental variable as the result of changes in the business scenery in recent years led to the emergence of a new organizational role: the Corporate Environmental Management. From this, many industrial companies have adopted policies and practices both administrative and operational in order to obtain positive effects on the environment by reducing or eliminating the damage caused by their activities at all stages of the life cycle of their products. From this, addition , it emerges a need to assess the performance of these adopted practices through the creation of appropriate performance indicators to the operations of the economic sector to which the company belongs. In this context, this paper has two main goals. The first one is the creation of a specific methodological framework for assessing the environmental performance of companies within the metal-mechanic sector. The second objective of this proposal is the application of the methodological framework created in the 33 machinery and equipment manufacturers companies for the sugar and alcohol sector that belongs to the metal mechanic cluster in the municipality of São Paulo Sertãozinho.
