Identification of promising technology: an application to the green technologies

Abstract

Recent reports elaborated by international organizations like United Nations (ONU) and Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OCDE) point that only a radical change in the production, distribution and consumption can save the planet from a climate catastrophe in next years. Furthermore, these studies claim that this change is possible only if accompanied by a technological improvement that raises the total factor productivity Thus, the decision to invest in technology is associated with the impact of it and it is here that this work fits. Using the co-classification criteria of patents, is intended to improve the superlimit cross impact matrix of Kim et al (2011) to which it considers not only between indirect impact technologies, but also their evolution in time. Thus, it can be inferred about the stage of technology development, identifying stages of growth, maturity and saturation. It is intended to apply the proposed approach in patent classification data named Green Environmental Related Technologies, created by the European Patent Office (EPO) in conjunction with the OECD (AU)
