Abstract

In the past, when we thought about foreigners, we pictured travelers who arrived today and left tomorrow. Simmel has changed this concept by saying that one can understand a foreigner as "a person who arrives today and stays tomorrow" (Simmel, 1983:182). It is exactly in this sense that we will deal with Jewish immigrants and their settling in Brazil. About 100 life stories and more than 200 personal photos were collected and part of it included in the book. (AU)
