The starting point of our study is the context of "feminization" of the HIV/Aids epidemic in Brazil and the lack of studies focused on the implications of this diagnosis concerning women's decisions of sexual and reproductive health. The current project aims to investigate aspects of sexual and reproductive health of WLHA and compare those with seronegative HIV women (WNLHA). Special attention will be given to the influence of social and relational dimensions, particularly the presence of situations of gender violence, and also the context of sexual and reproductive health care of women in both groups. A cross-sectional quantitative study will be conducted in 2013 in São Paulo city so as to compare two representative samples of WLHA and WNLHA, users of public health services. The study population will consist of women between 18 and 49 years old, regular users of public health services selected for the sample. The sample of young women from 18 to 24 years will be over-represented since the need to discuss the impact of HIV infection / AIDS in the trajectories of young women as well as the recent resurgence of the epidemic among this population subgroup. A qualitative investigation will also be developed in order to make a general characterization of the MVHA care services and to provide subsidies for discussions on the institutional and programmatic aspects that are involved in women's decision-making processes and reproductive and contraceptive behaviors.
