Abstract

Product-Service System (PSS) concerns to the integrated offer of products and services. PSS establishes a new approach to create value to customers and to support sustainable development in which new business models and processes are required. The product-service system development process is a key part of these requirements, since it should link the design of new products and services. However, the current work on PSS development process is dependent of models, methods and tools created to the standalone development of products and services, and mainly originated from the product development and service management areas. The challenge of professionals and researchers is to understand the specific characteristics of PSS development processes, in particular when the focus is on result-oriented services. This project intends to propose a reference model of the product-service system development process for result-oriented services. This model will describe development process through the following dimensions: activities, information, resources and roles. Additionally, it will indicate best-practices to ensure the success of PSS projects. Two main research methods will be employed to execute this project: systematic review and multiple case studies. Data will be analysed qualitatively. The main expected results are: the reference model of the PSS development process, the definition of characteristics of a product-service system, the definition of characteristics of developing a PSS and the support to new researches and researchers in a starting research area.
